Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

City & Guilds

As a training provider, we fully understand the need to employ quality tutors with relevant qualifications. Industry regulations regarding training have become more demanding; the need to attain the necessary qualifications has never been greater.

An Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector provides an introduction to teaching and training adults. It is an essential first step towards practitioner status – a licence to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (England), as well as being relevant to other nations.

This Award is for new entrants to the lifelong learning sector who don’t have prior teaching experience or qualifications. It also suits people already working in the area who want to gain official qualifications. You should have an idea of what subject you’d like to teach and either have, or be working towards, a qualification in that area.

Level 4 is ideal if your role involves identifying learning needs, planning for learning, engaging learners with differing characteristics, and assessing learning. This level provides more in-depth theories and principles.

This comprises one mandatory and a range of optional units, including:

  • Roles, responsibilities and relationships in lifelong learning
  • Understanding inclusive learning and teaching in lifelong learning
  • Using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in lifelong learning
  • Manage learning and development in groups
  • Principles of assessment in lifelong learning.
